Distinctive Calls
I’m trying to pay attention to the different calls and voices. I feel like there’s some distinction between them, even if it’s just tone or style.
There’s the well-known “caw caw” that everyone would recognise. But they seem to have their own pitch and timbre. Keep in mind there’s probably around 50 crows, it’s not easy to distinguish them! I feel like there’s a few more vocal characters, but I need to pay more attention to them.
There’s also a few others vocalisations they do. A sort of rumble noise, a sort of chatter, and a beak clicking. I could be wrong, but it seems like they’re doing this to eachother, and from what I’ve read this is part of their own socialising.
Usually at least one fight breaks out, and it seems they all enjoy this as they all start caw-caw’ing together - kinda like they’re shouting “fight fight fight” or “get him john”, but I’m probably anthropomiphising a bit there though!
I need to try start recording them individually though.
