Catch
I’m assuming someone else might have taught them this, but they crows seem quite keen to catch food mid-air. They’ll hover around for a bit waiting for something to be thrown up in the air, then catch mid-air. They seem to enjoy this game, but it’s splits the murder. Some will stubbornly wait on the ground all the time.
There’s a mix of one-to-one feeding, throwing it straight for them to catch, and scattering it around. Scattering tends to lead to squabbling and fights, so I prefer one-to-one and it helps me try give some fairness and see they all get some. I’m starting to get to recognise a couple that have clear distinctions. One with a gimpy leg, I’m gonna call Long John, and another with part of its upper beach broken, who I’m gonna call Rogers. Yes, why not have a bit of a pirate theme.
A crow (no idea if the same one on different occasions) has tapped me on the hat, and actually landed briefly on my head. Not sure if I want to encourage direct contact though, so no rewards for that sort of behaviour!
